Review #740; American Single Malt #7: Westland 6yr Cask #2423 “r/bourbon select”

This single cask of American Single Malt comes to us by way of Westland Distillery. Based out of Washington state, this is a 5-Malt Mashbill that was filled on 1/28/2015 in a Red Wine cask then dumped on 2/22/2021 at cask strength with no additives. Coming in at a very proof this should be interesting to try.

ABV: 70.37%

Nose: Cinnamon, Raspberries, Bready, Caramel, Cherry, nuttiness

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, Bready, Caramel, Cinnamon, Raspberries, Cherry, Peppery.

Finish: Long finish. Dry. Caramel, Cinnamon, Raspberries, char, bready, peppery.

Rating: 7/10

Another great cask from Westland, they continue to impress me with what they are able to do it with Single Malt in the U.S. This is quite delicious, malty, bready, spicy, with some faint fruits sprinkled in. The wine is well balanced with the base malt and adds just a touch to make this a great bottle.

I do not generally add water to my reviews, but I did on this one mainly due to knowing that Single Malts in the high 60% abv range tend to benefit for me. This one opened up a ton flavor wise with a touch of water, much fruiter and more spices on the nose and palate.
