This whisky comes to us from the Lowland distillery Auchentoshan. This particular cask was aged for 21 years in a refill sherry hogshead before being bottled at cask strength, with no color added, was non-chill filtered, and was exclusively bottled for The Whiskey Barrel.
ABV: 52.4%
Nose: Cereals, Figs, Orange Peel, slight Hay, Peppery,
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Peppery, Figs, Cereals, slight tobacco leaf, dark chocolate, orange peel, back tea, slight rubber.
Finish: Medium length finish, Peppery, Figs, Dark Chocolate, Orange Jam, bitter black tea, slight rubber.
Rating: 6/10
This is quite the unusual Scotch. It has a lot of what I expected out of a refill sherry cask and is cask driven. However, the weird notes take this to a place that I find rather fun. Rubber tire, a bit of biter black tea, some fruits, this is a weird fun ride.
