Review #668; Rum #140: Privateer Distillers Drawer Fathom

This rum comes to us from Ipswich distiller Privateer. This was double distilled on a pot still, aged in New American Oak for 4 years and 6 months. It was bottled with no additives. Let’s see how they did.

ABV: 50%

Nose: Crème Brulee, black pepper, nutmeg, raisins.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Vanilla bean, black pepper, nutmeg, toasted coconut, espresso

Finish: Shorter finish. Burst of nutmeg, raisin, toasted coconut, vanilla bean, espresso

Rating: 6/10

Overall, an above average offering from Privateer for me. This leans heavy into the dessert side of the flavor spectrum and is kind of flung around a bit with some hard hitting savory notes like espresso and black pepper. Touch of tannins pop in and out which make it disjointed, but overall it’s a nice experience if you like that more desserty profile that some privateer offerings can have.
