This rum comes to us from Independent Bottler Whisky and Rum. This Port Mourant from Demerara distillers was distilled at Demerara distillers, aged for 12 years in Europe, then bottled at 58% with no additives.
This was a sample, picture was provided by the generous fellow who shared the sample with me.
I had this blind and then was revealed the bottling, so keep that in mind while reading my notes.
ABV: 58%
Nose: Over-ripe fruits, banana, mango, grilled pineapple bark, campfire smoke, licorice
Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, Over-ripe fruits, banana, mango grilled pineapple bark, star anise, campfire smoke, buttery popcorn, vanilla cream, lemon zest, lime zest.
Finish: Long finish. Warm, over-ripe fruits, banana, grilled pineapple, star anise, buttery popcorn, licorice, faint industrialness, vanilla cream, lime zest, lemon zest.
Rating: 9/10
Thick oily mouthfeel, long finish, tons of over ripe fruits, funk, spices, and some butter bring it all together very well. This is tasty, full of flavor, and well balanced.
Guess: Hampden, Continental age, 10-12 years, C<>H, 60-63%abv.
Reveal: L’Espirit Port Mourant 12 Year
Well this is amazing. An incredible rum and one I would have thought to be Jamaican but once again a Port Mourant that was aged in Europe blows me away with flavor and quality. I’m going to have to source some bottles for myself.
