This is a release from Barton and is a 12 year old “High Rye” bourbon. Let’s see how this release is.
ABV: 48.6%
Nose: Caramel, Vanilla, Black Pepper, Cherry,
Palate: Medium Mouthfeel. Vanilla, black pepper, tobacco leaf, cherry, slight dark chocolate. A touch of uneven heat throughout.
Finish: Medium length finish. Very dry Black pepper, tobacco leaf, slight dark chocolate, oak spice. Slight uneven heat.
Rating: 5/10
Overall, this is fine to me. If you like oak this would be a real winner but this is overly tannic for me. The oak is strong and for being lower proof the heat is pronounced and uneven to me. It has classic bourbon flavors and leans hard into that dry well aged profile.
