Review #656; Rum #133: Navazos Palazzi Ron 23yr (2020)

This comes from a non-disclosed distiller, this 23 year old rum is from the Navazos Palazzi line selected by PM Spirits. This was distilled from Molasses using a column still, aged for 5 years in ex-bourbon in the tropics before a further 18 in oloroso casks in Spain. This was then bottled with no coloring, additives, or filtering.

I had this blind, so keep that in mind while reading my notes.

ABV: 51.5%

Nose: Caramel, Black Pepper, Toasted Brown Sugar, Coconut, sulfur

Palate: Lighter mouthfeel. Caramel, Vanilla, toasted brown sugar, black pepper, metallic tinge, big sulfur

Finish: Short finish, sulfur, metallic, toasted brown sugar, baking spices

Rating: 2/10

Yeah this is just not good. Its all sulfur, metallic tinge, and the metallic tinge just lingers forever on the finish as does the Sulphur. Im not normally sensitive to sulfur but this is just awful. Its like its been poorly smoked, poorly aged, or just plain bad distillate they tried to cover up with crappy sherry casks.

Guess: Stolen Smoked Rum

Reveal: Ron Navazos palazzi 23-year

Well, this is just way too much sherry for me. If you like sherry funk and Sulphur you would be a big fan of this, and I am sure that this is well made given no additives etc. However for me this is not enjoyable and I am glad I did not spring for a bottle blind.
