Review #606; Rum #107: Habitation Velier Foursquare 2yr (2013)

This is a bottling from dependent bottler Habitation Velier in collaboration with Foursquare. It is a 100% pot still rum, aged in ex-cognac casks for 2 years in Barbados. It clocks in with 15% angels share, no additives, and bottled at barrel proof. A departure from most Foursquare products as this is not a blend of pot and column distillate.

ABV: 64%

Nose: Dark Chocolate, Raisins, black pepper, crème Brulee.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Raisins, dark chocolate, crème Brulee, banana.

Finish: Medium length finish. Dry. Heat, black pepper, slight raisins, toasted brown sugar, vanilla.

Rating: 6/10

Overall, a good showing from Foursquare. It is interesting and has good flavor going on in it. However, where it falls for me is the heat as it runs a bit hot and unbalanced. The youth shows through with some unbalanced flavor spikes and heat. An interesting rum but one that leans a bit hot due to the youth I would guess.
