Review #591; Mezcal #66: Lalocura Rainy Season Pechuga

This is a Pechuga made in Santa Catarina Minas in Oaxaca. It is distilled on a clay pot, cooked with Encino wood in an underground pit, mashed with mallets by hand, and fermented in cypress tanks using wild yeasts before being distilled on clay pots with raw chicken breast and seasonal fruits and spices. This was a custom batch for Madre, this agave was harvested during the wet season.

Rating: 10/10

There isn’t much to say, except this is pretty much the perfect mezcal. It explodes with flavor on the nose and palate, and finished with a long lingering blast of flavor. Loads of spices, fruits, slight meatiness, minerality. The rainwater note is something I love in a mezcal and this bursts with it. This is all the flavors I want and love in a mezcal turned up to 11, and I am very sad that it is sold out.
