Review #587; American Whiskey #9: New Holland Hattery Royale Hopped Whiskey

This is 100% barley mash whiskey but then steeped in hops. It also has cane sugar added o it to sweetened it.

I had this blind so keep that in mind while reading my notes.

ABV: 40%

Nose: Hay, Lemon, pool cleaner, overly bitter

Palate: Light thin mouthfeel. Hay, vanilla, bitter black tea, overly bitter, weird green notes.

Finish: Short finish, hay, vanilla, bitter tannins, leaves a sticky sweet residue in your mouth that I hate.

Rating: 1/10

The nose is very off-putting with the pool cleaner esque smell, and the thin mouthfeel, lack of flavor, and strong bitter tea note don’t do well together. Luckily the finish is short on this. I couldn’t finish my sample.

Guess: A young single malt, 1-3 years old, ex- bourbon cask 43-46% abv. Not sure what this is but it just does not agree with me.

Reveal: New Holland Hatter Royale Hopped Whiskey

God this stuff is atrocious. Its like you take the worst parts of bad whiskey and then added hops to it (I am not a beer fan). Maybe beer people would like this but its awful to me.
