Review #578; Rum #93: Transcontinental Rum Line Trinidad (TDL) 19yr (2001)

This rum comes to us from TCRL. This was aged for 17 years in Trinidad & Tobago in an ex-bourbon barrel before being sent to Europe to age two more year in Europe. This is a blend of two casks from fermented molasses distilled on a column still from Angostura distillery. This was bottled at cask strength with no additives so is sure to be interesting.

ABV: 66.8%

Nose: Licorice, vanilla bean, overripe fruits, tart blueberries, nutmeg.

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel. Licorice, nutmeg, overripe fruits, tart blueberries, slight medicinal.

Finish: Long finish. Warm, cough syrup, licorice, raspberry, over-ripe fruits, nutmeg, allspice.

Rating: 7/10

This thing is weird and awesome. Jam packed with anise, fruits, spices, and a thick mouthfeel and long finish to boot this is a pretty great experience. This bottling walks up and smacks you in the mouth while not being too overpowering on the oak influence. The heat is very well behaved as well given the proof and time spent tropical ageing. Overall, a great rum and one that is sure to make rum fans happy.
