Review #577; Rum #92: Transcontinental Rum Line Panama 9yr (2011)

This bottling from TCRL, was distilled on column stills from fermented molasses before being aged for 7 years in Panama and 2 additional year in Europe. This was bottled with no additives.

ABV: 43%

Nose: Vanilla, dark chocolate, dried apricot.

Palate: Thin mouthfeel. Vanilla bean, dark chocolate, oak spice.

Finish: Short, Vanilla, oak spice, black pepper.

Rating: 4/10

Very pleasant. Good base notes, not too complex. Panama rum at higher proof and cask strength rocks as very good examples of no dosed column still rum. The biggest thing hurting this bottling is the low proof which hurts mouthfeel, finish, and depth of flavor. Overall, if you want something simple to throwback and enjoy without much thought, or maybe to introduce your bourbon friends to some non-dosed non-crappy rum this would be a good bottle for that.
