Review #524; Rum #61: Habitation Velier Worthy Park Forsyths 502

This rum comes to us from Jamaican distiller Worthy Park, bottled by Habitation Velier. This rum had a 3 month fermentation which allowed its Congeners to come in at 502 gr/laa when it was distilled and bottled in 2015. With no color added and non-chill filtered let’s see how it holds up.

ABV: 57%

Nose: Floralness, over-ripe tropical fruits. Mangos, Guava, banana peel, lemon zest, light bubblegum

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel. Over-ripe tropical fruits, heavy on the mango, guava, slight pineapple, overcooked brown sugar.

Finish: Medium length finish. Floral, pop of pepper, over-ripe mango, guava, pineapple, banana, overcooked brown sugar.

Rating: 7/10

Like most unaged, high proof Jamaican rums I like this. A bit sweet with all the over-ripe fruit but it leans into the funky past being edible stage of fruit to start getting some of that tart bitterness in it. Lots of floralness, a nice thick mouthfeel, with some spices popping in and out. The whole thing has a current of slightly overcooked brown sugar underneath. This is is medium on the funky scale but still pretty darn good, it gets good marks for being good if a bit simple neat, and a real awesome cocktailing rum for my household.
