Review #516; Rum #57: Clairin Sajous 28month Caroni Cask

This is a single cask bottling picked by Astor. This Sajous was aged for 28 months in an ex-Caroni cask then bottled at cask strength with no color added and was non-chill filtered.

ABV: 54.7%

Nose: Brine, Olive Oil, Guava, green apple, light diesel fuel, bubblegum.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. Motor Oil, Olive Oil, Briney, mango,

Finish: Medium length finish. Warm, tropical fruit, mango, light pineapple. Brine, nice oak structure, faint motor oil.

Rating: 8/10

The Sajous took this cask very well. Nice Brine and olive notes, with some tropical fruits mixed in. The caroni cask was picked up very well, with nice motor oil funk and some diesel fuel in the mix as well. This is some pretty weird and awesome stuff as the layers and flavor complexity from the finish really add to the clairin experience. I was worried the cask would be overpowering but it was not. An excellent showing.
