Review #515; Bourbon #130: Booker’s Boston Batch 2020-02

This comes to us for Jim Beam and is their Cask Strength offering, Bookers. This batch is their 2nd of 2020 and clocks in at 6 years, 3 months, and 10 days old. I had this blind so keep that in mind while reading my notes.

ABV: 63.25

Nose: Lighter nose, orange peel, toffee, oak spice.

Palate: Medium Mouthfeel, Oak Spice, Black Pepper, Orange Peel, dark chocolate.

Finish: Medium length finish. Warm. Dark Chocolate, vanilla frosting, nutmeg, oak spice.

Rating: 6/10

Guess: Some light orange peel, vanilla, oak, and pepper in this that plays well together. Heat is held pretty in check. I would guess this to be 58-62% abv, 7-10 years old. Makers Mark Private Select?

Reveal: Bookers Boston Batch 2020-02. Huh, well my blind bourbon radar is clearly way off on this one. I was so sure that this was something wheated and high proof. Still, this was very good. Tons of flavor, not overly hot, with some nice orange peel and baking spice that tied it all together. The value still isn’t there for me personally, as once you get over the 70 dollar price point in bourbon I have high expectations that Bookers just doesn’t meet for me.
