This IB at K&L bottled a 7 year old whisky from distiller Caol Ila. This was aged for a time, then finished in a sherry butt that was re-seasoned with sherry before finishing. Let’s see how well K&L picked.
ABV: 59.5%
Nose: Faint, given the proof. Bready, lemon zest, slight spoiled meat.
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, heat, raisins, peat, anise, pepper, bready, green wood.
Finish: Medium length finish, sharp black pepper, lemon zest, anise, black bitter tea,
Rating: 3/10
This is just to me, not very good. The youth is apparent with a green wood esque note, Sulphur, spikes of heat, and not being very well balanced. There is some pops of dark fruits from the sherry, but the peat is quite faint, and this seems like an uninspired SMWS where they bottled something too young and tried to salvage it with a finish.
