Review #502; Scotch #172: Laphroaig Cairdeas 2019 Triple Wood CS

This is the 2019 Cairdeas release from Laphroaig, for this they aged the whiskey in ex-bourbon, quarter casks, and ex-Oloroso casks before bottling it at cask strength. This whisky also had no color added and was non-chill filtered.

ABV: 59.5%

Nose: Iodine, industrial peat, vanilla, oak spice, woodiness

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, industrial smoke and peat, vanilla, slight raisins, oak spice, a bit of ash.

Finish: Medium length finish, oak spice, industrial peat and smoke, vanilla cream, lemon zest

Rating: 7/10

I was not a fan of the regular release of this, but this is pretty good, tons of your typical flavor for a Laphroaig release, however it doesn’t rise to be fantastic for me, and I would compare it to a slightly different Laphroaig10 CS.

1 | Disgusting | So bad I poured it out.

5 | Good | Good, just fine.

6 | Very Good | A cut above.

7 | Great | Well above average

8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional.

9 | Incredible | An all time favorite

10 | Perfect | Perfect
