Review #497; Rum #54: Clairin Sajous (2017)

This is a rum from Haiti. This is made with Sugar Cane Juice, uses wild yeast, distilled on a pot still, and made by Maser Distiller Michel Sajous. Bottled at still proof with no color or sugar added, let’s see how this rum stacks up.

Harvest: 2017

ABV: 56.2%

Nose: Olives, brine, light cream cheese, green bell peppers, lime zest, Cilantro,

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel. Heavy olives, briney, light cream cheese, faint vanilla, vegetalness, lime zest, Cilantro, rubber cement.

Finish: Medium length finish. Warm. Olives, brine, light cream cheese, cilantro, rubber cement.

Rating: 7/10

This is some wild stuff, tons of vegetalness, savoriness, and just bizarre flavors. This would be off putting to some but I really dig this. It keeps you coming back each sip to find some new flavor, and it’s really well balanced. The still proof helps with the mouthfeel and to retain that flavor. With the $40 price points on these, it is really hard to go wrong with still proof, unaged, delicious rum. A real winner in my book.
