Review #491; Rum #53: Privateer Distiller’s Drawer #93, Seelbach’s Select #1

This is a single barrel select by Seelbachs from American Rum producer Privateer. It was distilled 2 times, aged in New Oak for 2 years and 5 months, then bottled at cask strength with no color added, non-chill filtered, and with no additives.

ABV: 54.4%

Nose: Heavily sweet nose, toasted marshmallows, vanilla frosting, light oak spice,

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, heavy vanilla frosting, cereal marshmallows, crisp sweet apple, toasted brown sugar, caramel.

Finish: Short finish, oak spice, allspice, vanilla bean, milk chocolate, toasted brown sugar, caramel.

Rating: 5/10

This rum just jumps out with sweetness. Loads of caramel, fruits, some baking spices, then chocolate and caramel on top of all that make it light a cocktail in a bottle. I can see why someone would really enjoy all of the sweet notes in this, but it just goes too much in that direction for me.
