Review #486; Bourbon #120: Wild Turkey Kentucky Spirit Single Barrel

This is an offering from Wild Turkey. It is a single barrel option, one you can choose between it and Russel’s Reserve Single Barrel. They bottle this one at 101 proof much like their mainline WT 101.

ABV: 50.5%

Nose: Rye Spice, orange Peel, Caramel, faint musty funk, some light vanilla.

Palate: Light mouthfeel, orange peel, faint rye spice, caramel, light oak structure.

Finish: Medium length, orange peel, caramel, and rye spice that fades out.

Rating: 5/10

Maybe it is just this barrel, but this is a just fine Wild Turkey product that tastes like a good classic bourbon. It has that spice and slight fruit notes that you get. In terms of comparison, I would need to try more Kentucky Spirit barrels to make any declarative statements, but for this barrel at least it doesn’t seem worth the premium to me.
