Review #478; Scotch #161: Longmorn 13yr 2006 SMWS “A Syrupy Sweet Tale of Romance”

This bottling comes to us from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. This was distilled at Longmorn, aged for 13 years in a 1st fill ex-sherry butt. It was then bottled at cask strength with no color added and was non chill filtered. This was bottled for the 2020 Speyside festival. Let’s see how they chose.

ABV: 62.3%

Nose: Raisins, Fig Jam, oak spice, dates, Crème brûlée, nutmeg, allspice.

Palate: Medium syrupy mouthfeel, fig jam, slight must, raisins, allspice, orange peel

Finish: Medium length, heavy fruits, raisins, toffee, dates, figs, orange peel.

Rating: 7/10

Classic definition of a sherry bomb, for some this would rank as too much sherry influence. I tend to like these sherry bombs, so this one hits the marks for me. Loads of fruit and nice spices carry it all together for a sweeter style whisky. Wait for cold temperatures and pour this as consolation.
