Review #463; Bourbon #111: Lee W. Sinclair Seelbachs Select #1

This is a craft distiller based out of French Lick Indiana. Seelbachs selected this bourbon. This distillery uses a double bot still, ages in a 53 gallon 2 char barrel, and uses a unique 4-grain mash bill of Corn, Wheat, Oats, and Caramel Malt. I had this blind, so keep that in mind while reading this.

ABV: 56.35%

Nose: Tannic, Sawdust, Wet Cardboard,

Palate: Thin, Watery. Ace tone, Sawdust, greenwood growth, unbalance heat, slight pepper.

Finish: Thankfully, short. Tannins, greenwood, sawdust, ethanol.

Rating: 2/10

Thin, watery, and like drinking oaky water. This is a mess all around. It’s thin in mouthfeel, but unbalanced with heat spiking at random times throughout. Underneath there would be a pleasant pepperiness if it were not so unbalanced. This is a mess, and not something that I would suggest even trying.

Guess: Craft Bourbon, Aged in a smaller barrel, 40-43% ABV no older than 2-4 years old.

Reveal: Lee W Sinclair 4 Grain Bourbon, Seelbachs Select

Shocked on the proof, but other than that pretty well on in my opinion. For the handful of good craft distilleries out there, double or triple that number of other ones putting out bad stuff. Maybe this Single Barrel was just not good, but based off one experience I will not be seeking out a bottle.
