Review #454; Gin #9: Castle and Key Spring Gin 2020

This is a variation of the seasonal Gin’s castle and key has been putting out while their Bourbon and Ryes age. They distill these using their rye mashbill new make, then infuse with seasonal botanicals. Some of the interesting ones used in this one are lemongrass and coconut.

ABV: 46.5%

Nose: Warm and packed with citrus, vanilla cream, honey and pepper. A bit of toastiness, and citrus peel.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Warm and tingly. Loads of vanilla cream, spiciness, pepper, slight brine, lemon zest, citrus peel.

Finish: Medium length finish, starts off with a warm and moist toastiness. Spices, black pepper, brine, lemon zest, citrus peel, and creaminess mix in then fade out to a lingering allspice and lemon zest mix.

Rating: 7/10

This gin is chock full of flavor. Tons of spices, lots of fruits, and tastes like a cocktail in a bottle with how heavy some of the Botanicals come through for me, mainly the lemongrass and orange peel. That may be a bit off putting to some, but for me I really dig it. This is one I need to grab more of before they are all gone.
