Review #447; Rum #45: Appleton 12yr (Old Label)

This standard bottling is the former label, which underwent a change in 2019, this bottling came from being aged in ex-bourbon barrels in Jamaica for a minimum of 12 years.

ABV: 43%

Nose: Light tropical fruits, mango, melon, brown sugar, cinnamon and caramel.

Palate: Light mouthfeel, a bit thin. Caramel, heavy brown sugar, nutmeg, melon, mango, and orange peel.

Finish: Short, burst of brown sugar, fades into a light pepper, caramel, cantaloupe, and orange peel.

Rating: 5/10

A perfectly fine and acceptable rum, if not too exciting. Good base of flavors that is perfect for throwing in a glass to drink and enjoy, introduce others to rum gently, (unless you are a sadist like me and pull out the rumfire), and plays well in cocktails. I just wish we had the option to try this at a slightly higher proof like 46-48% abv.
