Review #364; Scotch #136: Octomore 10.4

This is a bottling from Bruichladdich of their Ocotomore line. This was aged for 3 years in new oak made from Limousin oak containers. They were subjected to a high toast char level. This offering was malted to 88ppm, then bottled with non chill filtering, no color added, and bottled at cask strength.

ABV: 63.5%

Nose: Wood spice, campfire smoke, foresty vegetal peat, light tart apple.

Palate: Thick oily mouthfeel, strong oak spice, foresty Peat, lemon zest, dark chocolate, malty.

Finish: Long, spicy, dark chocolate, oak spice, ashy, campfire smoke, foresty peat, malty.

Rating: 7/10

This is a delicious, young, brash, and in your face offering, though not in the peat bomb you would expect from Octomore. The new oak really helps shine how good this base spirit is, its malty, foresty, with some slight fruits and other flavors in there. This is one of my favorite Octomores I have had.
