Review #358; Scotch #134: Auchentoshan 18yr 2000 SMWS 5.70 “In the absence of convention”

This is a bottling from the Scotch Malt Whiskey Society. It was aged in ex-bourbon barrel then finished in 1st fill Ex-Oloroso hogshead. Barreled in 2000 and bottled in 2018, this bottle had no color added, was non-chill filtered, and bottled at cask strength.

ABV: 56.3%

Nose: Syrupy, Butterscotch Bomb, Figs and Citrus, Blackberry, Spicy, peppery, honey.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Syrupy, Buttery. Bready. Apple, figs, allspice,

Finish: Medium length, Maple Syrup, Bready, Blackberry, Apple. Allspice.

Rating: 6/10

This thing is a syrupy sweet bomb, in a good way. Lots of bright fruits, some savory spices balance it out but this leans toward the sweet side of things for sure. Its not something I would want all the time due to the sweetness, but it’s a bottle I’d like to have.
