Review #341; Rum #27: Dr. Bird Cask Strength

This is a traditional pot still rum that is distilled at Worthy Park in Jamaica and then imported to the states and partially aged in Moscatel barrels. This offering was a “Single-Barrel” for the state of Oregon that was bottled at Cask Strength.

ABV: 59.2%

Nose: Pungent Rotting fruits, motor oil, Pepper, heavy sweet grapes, slight floralness, honey.

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Heavy rotting fruit, heat, pepper, heavy grape influence, citrus, tangy.

Finish: Medium length, Dry, rotting fruit, tangy, slight Sulphur, pepper, floral.

Rating: 5/10

This is fine, I actually think this is a case of the standard Dr.Bird at 50% abv being a better product to drink neat. For me the FF Moscatel Barrel imparts a little too much sweetness for my taste neat, however as a cocktail product this would really shine through.
