Review #284; Scotch #98: Big Peat Christmas 2015

Big Peat Christmas 2015

This is a blended malt from Douglas Laing. It has whisky from Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and Port Ellen. Let’s dive in and see how well this reasonably priced dram holds up.

ABV: 53.8%

Nose: Slight Meaty Peat, Campfire Smoke, Malty, Bacon, Iodine, slight vanilla.

Palate: Medium oily mouthfeel, slight sweet peat. Ashy, Campfire smoke. Bacon. Lemon Zest.

Finish: Medium length, Meaty Peat, ashy, Iodine, Campfire smoke, rotting vegetation.

Rating: 6/10

This is tasty. For the blend and being a yearly release, this is pretty solid and I can see myself grabbing these in the future. The value is solid too. This just hits a bunch of the things I want in a peated release.

1 | Disgusting | So bad I poured it out.

2 | Poor | I wouldn’t consume by choice.

3 | Bad | Multiple flaws.

4 | Sub-par | Not bad, but better exists.

5 | Good | Good, just fine.

6 | Very Good | A cut above.

7 | Great | Well above average

8 | Excellent | Really quite exceptional.

9 | Incredible | An all time favorite

10 | Perfect | Perfect
