Review #248; Bourbon #80: Booker’s 30th Anniversary

This is a limited release product from Jim Beam from their bookers line. This is a blend of 9-16 year old bourbons, 70% 9 year and 30% 16 year. This retailed for $200/750ml and secondary rises far above that. Let’s see if the hype matches the taste.

ABV: 62.9%

Nose: Strong Cherry, Vanilla Frosting, Oak, slight peanut, tobacco leaf,

Palate: Thick, oily mouthfeel. Warm, Tobacco Leaf, Tannins, Oak, peanut, slight vanilla. Strong Pepper

Finish: Longish length, warm, Oak, peanut, tobacco, tannins. Black Pepper, Slight Spice , strong pepper.

Rating: 6/10

This comes across to me as wanting to be a limited edition rich bourbon, however it falls short of it (and it’s price point). Those good flavors are dominated and muscled out by a lot of oakiness that seems to throw off the other flavors. While a fine showing, it in no way delivers on the hype.
