Review #246; Rye #37: Whistlepig 10yr K&L “Swine Merchants” Barrrel #2449

Whistlepig 10 Year K&L “Swine Merchants” Pick

Whistlepig is a NDP who sources their whiskey from either MGP or Alberta distillers. This is one of their Single Barrel, cask strength releases. Full Disclosure, I am a fan of these of the ones I’ve tried and will be reviewing a smattering of these. So lets see how these hold up!

Barrel Number: 2449

ABV: 59.9%

Nose: Rye Spice, Green Apple, Vanilla, Ethanol, Black Pepper,

Palate: Medium Oily Mouthfeel, Heat, Green Apple, slightly tannic, black pepper

Finish: Medium length, heat, Tannic, black pepper, some rye spice.

Rating: 5/10

This is ok, but this is hot and unbalanced. I don’t mind proof as I like it, but the heat is all over the place on this one and for some reason it comes across really tannic as well. In terms of a rye I enjoy this, but for a WP pick this is a pretty poor performance for me.
