Ardbeg Ardbog
This is a release from 2013 Ardbeg day during the Feis Ile whisky festival. This was aged in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-manzanilla sherry cask. It was Non-Chill filtered. Let’s dive in and see how this LE release from Ardbeg Holds up.
ABV: 52.1%
Nose: Light BBQ esque peat, light smoke, creamy Vanilla, figs, Citrus, savory tart grapes, toffee
Palate: Medium Oily mouthfeel, warm bbq esque peat, campfire smoke, tart grapes, a bit buttery, Creamy Vanilla.
Finish: Medium Length, Citrus, bbq sweet peat, light campfire smoke, creamy vanilla, tart grapes and baking spices around the edges.
This is tasty and well balanced. The typical bbq esque Ardbeg peat is there, tempered by the more sweet vanilla from what I assume is the bourbon barrel influence, rounded out by the fruitier and savory flavors from the manzanilla cask. If I had a full bottle of this, it would not last long at all.
