Review #210; Scotch #67: Glen Moray 31yr 1987 SMWS 35.228

This is a Glen Moray selected by the SMWS that was aged for 28 years in an ex-bourbon hogshead before being transferred to a first fill Oloroso hogshead before being bottled at cask strength with no additives. I had this blind then was revealed the bottle so keep that in mind while reading my notes.

ABV: 48.9%

Nose: Very cherry heavy nose, vanilla, dark chocolate, caramel, oak,

Palate: Medium but oily mouthfeel, vanilla, dark chocolate, cherry, oak, tart berries, leather,

Finish: Medium length, Oak, cherry, leather, tart. Fades into some nice baking spices.

Rating: 7/10

Guess: I feel as though the label of this thing is trying to bamboozle. I honestly have no idea what this is or could be, Im gonna go with my gut of a bourbon, aged 11-15 years, 55-58%, and from the Buffalo Trace Distillery?

Reveal: SMWS “Cigar Juice” Glen Moray 31yr

This is without a doubt the worst I have ever done in a blind off on spirit, aged, proof all of it! It also is the oldest scotch I’ve tried and is older than myself as well! I wish I had another oz to play around with now that I know. Really interesting stuff and way different than anything else I’ve ever had. I would surmise I fooled myself into thinking it wasn’t a scotch.
