Review #169; Bourbon #59: Four Roses Small Batch Select

4 Roses Showdown!

I happen to have a few bottles and a number of samples of 4 Roses Private Selects lying around, so why not pit them all against each other in a big review series!

4 Roses is known for their different yeasts and mashbills which allow for 10 different recipes of bourbon.

The bulk of these reviews will contain samples of their private select, which are single barrel offerings of individual recipes pulled from the 10 variations you can have.

All that being said lets dive in!

4 Roses Small Batch Select

This is a new product added to the main line of products. This is a blend of 6-7 year bourbons from the following recipes

• OBSV

• OBSK

• OBSF

• OESV

• OESK

• OESF

**ABV: 52%

Nose: Spicy, Oak, Berries, Vanilla, Black Pepper

Palate: Medium mouthfeel, Spice, Slight Green Apple, Oak

Finish: Short, spice, oak, cinnamon, green apple

Rating: 5/10

This product tastes fine, it has some good flavors to it, overall though I prefer the Single Barrel OBSV that is a standard offering. The proof is nice and it drinks under it.

Biggest overall issue with this offering is the flavors aren’t as bold as most of the 4R products I have had.
But it is a good bourbon, which is priced for the market but not something I would buy at retail. I prefer the SiB OBSV to this offering personally.
