Review #135; Rye #29: Angel’s Envy Rye

Background: This is a 6-7 year old rye, finished for up to 18 months in ex-rum casks. I had this blind, so keep that in mind while reading my notes.

ABV: 50%

Nose: Spice, bubblegum, slight greenwood, burnt oak, vanilla, cinnamon

Palate: Medium/thin mouthfeel, Spice, greenwood, slight vanilla hint, oak,hot

Finish: Shortish finish. Heat, spice, oak, leather hint.

Im not a big fan of this. It’s a bit of a mess, the flavors are all over the place and dominated by charred oak.

Rating: 3/10

Guess: This is a young rye or a young high rye bourbon, 45-50%, 4 years or less old.

Reveal: Angels Envy (rum) Finished Rye

Interesting as I have a bottle but haven’t touched it in a number of months, but I can see why. I previously reviewed this in the Fall so my tasted must have changed a bit since then.
