Review #129; Rye #26: Willet 4yr

Background: This is a 4 year rye from Bardstown Distillery. This rye was distilled and aged 4 years and is actually their distillate.

ABV: 56%

Nose: Rye Spice, Floral, Green Apples, vanilla, baking spice, nutmeg. Ethanol

Palate: Medium/thin oily mouthfeel, rye Spice, green apple, tartness, heat, baking spice.

Finish: Warm, medium length. Oaky, Rye Spice, Pepper, black tea. I am enjoying this decent rye. Nice and straightforward with some complexity. I am a self-admitted big fan of rye, so I’m enjoying this very much. Very different mouthfeel compared to some of the other ryes Ive had.

Rating: 7/10

Guess: Whistle Pig Store Pick, SiB, Between 55-60% ABV, if not that a high rye recipe, at least 65 % rye

Reveal:Willet 4 Yr Rye 113.8 Proof / 56%

Not bad for a guess, Ive never had a Willet before but this is enjoyable. Good Rye notes, Barrel Strength, and tasty. Would not mind a few of these floating around and would love to see an older expression.
