Review #117/118: Bourbon #47/48: Old Forester 1990 Japan Export and Old Forester (Modern)

Sample 1 (Buffalo Trace Glencairn) Left

These are 2 blind reviews of modern day OF and a 1990 OF exported to Japan, lets see how they stack up against each other blind!

ABV: 43%

Nose: Bananas, so much banana, bubble gum, caramel, oak.

Palate: Thin, watery mouthfeel, Caramel, oak, banana, black pepper, spice.

Finish: Short, little to none.

This has a little bit of flavor to it, that OF banana note is pretty prominent which holds it back as well as the proof. This is ok but doesn’t stand out.

Rating: 4/10

Guess: 1990 OF

Reveal: Modern Day OF

Sample 2 (Right)

ABV: 43%

Nose: Acetone, cloyingly sweet, marshmellow, candy, red fruit note,

Palate: Thin mouthfeel, Little to no flavor, ethanol, acetone.

Finish: Little to no finish

This has little to no flavor. All I can get from this is some oak and ethanol throughout besides the nose. This bottle is destined for mixing if I had to put it to a use.

Rating: 3/10

Guess: Modern Day OF

Reveal: 1990 OF
