Matured in a combination of Oloroso sherry casks and bourbon barrels, both of which were first-filled. After a quarter of a century of ageing, it as bottled at cask strength.
ABV: 45.1%
Nose: Medicinal Whiff, light smoke, hay, fruity berried hint. The age has really tamed and mellowed the nose on this.
Palate: Medium mouthfeel, “wet” and lingering, medicinal hints but not overpowering, smoke, vanilla, baking spices, dark berries. Peat and smoke balance well with the sweet flavors. Very subtle flavors all around.
Finish: Medium/short. Peat, vanilla sweetness, smoke, and the hay field after a heavy rain.
This is an interesting and delicious dram. Comparing it to some other offerings I’ve had it is much more subtle than many of the other CS offerings due to the proof and age. This subtleness makes it stand out and I find it quite good. One that I would highly recommend to try.
