Review #56; Bourbon #30: Elijah Craig Barrel Proof B517

Background: This is an uncut, non chill filtered 12 year age stated cask strength bourbon released in 3 batches during the year, with the code showing month and year released.

This particular batch won “Whiskey of the year” according to Whiskey Advocate. Lets see how it stacks up.

ABV: 62.1%

Nose: Ethanol, Oak, Black Pepper, Caramel, Vanilla, Citrus hint

Palate: Oak, Brown Sugar, Black Pepper, burnt leather

Finish: Long, Warm, moist sweet oak, leather, vanilla, some caramel.

This is tasty, but a little oak forward compared A117. However the flavors are more in line and its pretty good. Would not mind a bottle.
